Whiskey Row Pub – Jannette
oil on canvas
8×10
It only took me four months to keep my promise.
Liz and I stayed in Prescott, AZ over the Christmas holiday. We stayed at the Hotel St Michael, at the very beginning of Whiskey Row.
After extremely disappointing service at The Palace, service so bad that I will never attempt to enter the place again, we wandered into The Whiskey Row Pub. Cash only. Pay as you go. No food, but they have a menu for the place next door. And the best service, bar none!
Jannette was quick on the refills before our glasses were empty. She didn’t know us from the hundreds of other tourists that wander in, but she treated us like regulars. By the end of the night I had persuaded her to pose for some photos for a painting. She is likely thinking, “Yeah right!” Well, here it is.
Her face is so unique I thought it would be a cinch to capture her. For such a small painting, I fought with it for a month. Last night, I went in the studio for five minutes. A few brush strokes, and I was done.
